This course is built around 4 themes. The first theme looks at the use of the group to come up with new thinking. The second theme explores Brainstorming. The third theme looks at other synectic techniques such as Morphing and Storboarding. The fourth theme considers how a synectics group reaches a decision.

Most planned thinking in organisations takes place in a group setting and most group thinking takes place in and out of meetings. Thinking with others has a number of advantages over thinking alone. It increases the number of ideas we can have; it increases the quality of ideas; it allows us to scrutinise ideas more carefully; and it ensures that ideas that get supported have a better chance of successful implementation.
